Lake Naivasha National Park is located in the Northeast of Nairobi city. The park was established in April 1995 and sits over an area of 140 square kilometres. Lake Naivasha National Park derives its name from Lake Naivasha; the second largest freshwater lake in Kenya and it is one of the unique features found on the Great Rift Valley. The Lake is the highest of the Rift Valley lakes at an elevation of 1,884 metres and with no viewable outlet but assumed to have an underground outflow because of its relatively fresh water.

The park is a home to over 400 bird species, which can  be spotted along swampy areas, acacia trees and many others. Some of sighted birds include; herons, flamingo, fish eagles, doves, marabou stork, flamingos, kingfishers, weaver mentioned but few. The lake contains fresh water which dominates the largest side of the park to allow boat rides mostly during the wet season. While enjoying your boat ride experience, you can be able to sight see water species of birds along the water banks.

Lake Naivasha is a destination that you can come and visit all year round. The most ideal time, however, is between June and October. During those months it is the summer and it will be hot, but still the ideal time to visit.
